He sees each day as a gift, no matter what happens
Adrian Mireles
Texas
Year of diagnosis: 2017
Exercise of choice: Aerobic mostly: walking, hiking on trails
Favorite outdoor exercise: Walking and exploring different places
Most proud of related to outdoors: The fact that I can go outside and therefore extend my mobility by not being sedentary inside.
Outdoor or exercise gear that is a must: Appropriate footwear
Advice for someone with PD who is just starting to exercise: Start slow and work your way up as you go forward. Don’t settle for the ability to do just one movement.
Biggest challenge with Parkinson’s right now: It’s breathing, but it’s under control by using a portable oxygen machine.
How I try to stay positive: I wake up every day and realize the minute I open my eyes that the day is a gift. So no matter what happens that day, I am positive.
Advocacy work for PD: I have hosted many fundraising events, I’ve participated in events, and I host my own TikTok channel to advocate. I travel the country constantly advocating on behalf of a PD medication, which I take and it works great. I am a member of and participate in many support group organizations as well as different podcast groups. I am an Ambassador for the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Other interests/hobbies: I collect cars, and I like to golf at the driving range.
Career: I am retired after 21 years in the oil field industry. In addition, I’ve spent 25 years as a stage actor and have had roles in five movies. I also was a radio broadcaster for 10 years.
Something the world should know: Remember the difference all those around you make, including yourself. Remember the positives and not the negatives, and the whole world will be better for it.
