Who is this
Unshakable Hiker?

Death Valley, California

I was born and bred Midwestern, but big mountains beckon me.

Hiking to a high place with a view gives me a rush inside like a creek in early spring.

I also have Parkinson’s disease.

But I am convinced that a Parkinson’s diagnosis doesn’t mean I have to quit the outdoors. Five years into it, I’m still hiking.

And I’m certain that many others who live with this dastardly disease can receive the benefits of outdoor activity.

That’s what this blog is about. While sharing my passion for hiking and the outdoors, I aim to motivate people with Parkinson’s to get or stay active, breathe in some fresh air, and enjoy nature’s gifts any way they can.

Beyond hiking

Exercise is the most important thing I can do to slow the progression of the disease. Besides hiking, my blog covers many other types of exercise that can be of benefit.

I also enjoy learning about Parkinson’s, so I share what’s going on in the world of PD, as well as thoughts from my personal experience managing the disease.

A new mountain

Parkinson’s is a movement disorder that causes me to shake and lose my balance, and it will only worsen with time. It’s a different type of mountain for me to climb, and I’m doing the best I can.

Take a look around this site. Whatever your outdoors is – camping, climbing, hiking, biking, snowshoeing or just a stroll around your neighborhood – you too can answer its call … unshakably!
