Who is this Unshakable Hiker?

Death Valley, California

I was born and bred Midwestern, but big mountains beckon me.

Hiking to a high place with a view gives me a rush inside like a creek in early spring.

I also have Parkinson’s disease.

Years ago, I set a goal to reach the highest point of every U.S. state. Then in 2020, with only a few states to go, I was diagnosed with a movement disorder that would cause me to shake and lose my balance and only get worse with time.

Just like that, I had a new type of mountain to climb.

But I was convinced a Parkinson’s diagnosis doesn’t mean you have to quit the outdoors.

That’s what this blog is about. While sharing my passion for hiking and outdoor activity, I aim to motivate those living with Parkinson’s to get or stay active, breathe in some fresh air, and enjoy nature’s gifts any way they can.

I also like learning about Parkinson’s, so I share what’s going on in the world of PD.

Whatever your outdoors is – camping, climbing, hiking, biking, snowshoeing or just a stroll around your neighborhood – you can answer its call … unshakably!

(In case you’re wondering, I eventually was able to reach my high points goal – minus Alaska’s Denali Peak. But I firmly assert that “49” has a nice ring to it.)
